Artifice

2010, by JMW

This is a maquette for a much larger project, Auchnafree (or field of flowers). Measuring 125cm wide by 60cm height and 35cm deep, the maquette comprises painted MDF board (B&Q) using household, mainly gloss, paints from Wilkinson with various artificial flowers purloined from my late father's house at Worksop, Notts, and my late partner's home in Muswell Hill, north London. These were superglued in board holes dug out by a Tesco cordless power drill used inside a double garage serving as the artist's crowded studio.

Artifice now hangs in the mistress bedroom of the artist's house.

* The string holding up the flowers was only there while the superglue set and has since been removed.
